Coached by a competitor. Built on the island's edge.
Madeira Surf Progress is led by Nilton Freitas — competitive surfer, trained under high-level coaches, born and raised on the volcanic coastline he now coaches on. Years on the Portuguese national circuit taught him how to read waves at speed; years of technical training taught him how to teach what he learned.
The brand exists because Nilton saw a gap. Madeira is one of Europe's most serious surf destinations, but most visiting surfers spend their week guessing the forecast, surfing the wrong spot for the day, or stuck in group lessons that don't move them forward. Madeira Surf Progress is built around the opposite: the right spot for the conditions, the right wave for your level, structured technical feedback every session.
Whether you're standing up for the first time at Machico or stepping onto Jardim do Mar's point for the first serious right-hander of your life, the methodology is the same — read the day, pick the wave, refine the technique, ride forward. No shortcuts. Real progression.
