Who runs this site

This site (niltonfreitas.surf) is operated by Nilton Freitas, a freelance surf guide based in Madeira, Portugal. You can contact him via WhatsApp at +351 966 236 416.

What we collect

We collect as little as possible. Specifically:

  • Anonymous usage data — only if you accept analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled. This tells us things like how many visitors the site gets and which pages they read. It does not identify you.
  • Your locale preference — if you choose a language, we remember it in your browser's localStorage so you don't have to choose again. This data never leaves your device.
  • Your consent choice — when you accept or decline analytics cookies, we store that choice in your browser's localStorage so we don't ask again.

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any other personal data on this website. To book a session you contact Nilton directly via WhatsApp; that conversation happens on WhatsApp's platform under their privacy policy, not ours.

Cookies and similar storage

Before you make a choice on the consent banner, no cookies are set and no analytics scripts run. After you accept:

  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — used to distinguish unique visitors. Retained up to 2 years per Google's policy.

If you decline, none of the above run. Your decline choice itself is remembered in localStorage so the banner stops appearing — that's the only storage in that case.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we automatically treat it as a decline and never load analytics.

How long we keep data

Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 14 months in Google Analytics, then deleted automatically. localStorage entries on your device persist until you clear your browser data or change your choice.

Where data goes

Anonymous analytics data is processed by Google LLC. Google may transfer this data outside the EU/EEA. Google states it has signed Standard Contractual Clauses for such transfers under GDPR Article 46.

No other third parties receive your data from this site.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data erased
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (clear your browser data, or decline the banner on a future visit)
  • Lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data-protection authority (CNPD) or your local supervisory authority

Because we do not collect identifying data, we usually have nothing on you to access, correct, or erase. If you have a specific request, contact us via WhatsApp.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything material, we update the "Last updated" date at the top. There's no separate notification — please check back if you visit often.
